Our History

In the 1970s, third-generation restaurateur James C. Kokas dreamed of opening an upscale restaurant in downtown Detroit. By the mid-1980s all the pieces were in place to transform an old taxi garage on East Larned Street into one of the most elegant restaurants in the Midwest, Opus One. After a successful 25 years the restaurant closed so that Opus could focus on being an innovator in Detroit's catering scene.

Today, Opus continues to be a leading caterer in Detroit and a preferred vendor for venues all through Southeast Michigan.
