Our History

In the 1970s, third-generation restaurateur James C. Kokas dreamed of opening an upscale restaurant in downtown Detroit. By the mid-1980s all the pieces were in place to transform an old taxi garage on East Larned Street into one of the most elegant restaurants in the Midwest, Opus One. After a successful 25 years the restaurant closed so that Opus could focus on being an innovator in Detroit's catering scene.

Today, Opus One Catering and it's sister company, New Pearl Catering, continue to be a leading caterer in Detroit and a preferred vendor for venues all through Southeast Michigan.
